The client’s requirement was to get a lot of value for little money, so we took advantage of the opportunity presented by the adjacent project of the school’s roof extension to add insulation and acoustic panels to the unused part of the existing truss. Part of the paneling around the room’s perimeter was designed to be movable, allowing for the flexibility of the hall. In its basic configurations, the space can either be mirrored (for example, for dance and ballet lessons) or upholstered, i.e., acoustically dampened (for spoken word and certain types of musical performances). Thanks to the ability to rotate the panels, there is an endless array of possible combinations between these configurations. For example, the space can be transformed into an exhibition area.
The design of the wooden paneling on the upper part of the hall was based on precise requirements from acoustic specialists. The shaping and division of the panels were treated as a creative task. The design of the division naturally follows the geometry of the roof’s vault, dividing the space into smaller sections.
